Thank you for your invaluable interest in and support of the equality effect throughout 2024. Together we are turning off the rape tap, so that mopping the rescue floor is no longer necessary.
Here are five of our favourite 2024 e² equality moments:

1. Celebrating 10 years of 160 Girls engagement with the Kenya National Police Service (NPS); 81% of child rape victims are now getting preliminary access to justice (i.e.: an arrest and the initiation of a prosecution), within 3 months of reporting to police (in Canada rape victims experience a 36% access to justice rate, ever).
2. Celebrating 10 years of 160 Girls engagement with the Kenya NPS, and having 82% of child rape survivors surveyed report that they were treated with respect by police (0% of the cases in the 2013 160 Girls Constitutional claim were found to be Constitutional, and devoid of respectful treatment).
3. The excitement created by the more than 2,688 160 Girls Virtual Justice Club (VJC) leaders creating equality change, as they distributed the 160Girls Justice Journal to more than 23,800 community members. For example, one leader shared their impactful experience: “Newsletter distribution was enjoyable for me, because I taught people who lack knowledge of the project, a lot about the project. This made me realize that I have the ability to change the world.” – Ashley, VJC Leader.
4. Janet, a VJC champion, heard about Emily’s brutal assault and visited her family to encourage them to report to the police, leading to the recent arrest of the accused. Despite a year-long chase, during which the accused went on the run and even changed his identity, the police, applying 160 Girls investigative training, were able to track him down and make an arrest. Janet remains a close friend and steadfast support to Emily, as Emily now looks forward to returning to school.
5. The launch of the 160 Girls Prosecution & Judicial engagement, which will build on the 160 Girls police success, and ensure that child rape victims experience access to justice at every stage of the justice system.
“I have confidence that the 160 Girls P&J program will go a long way in helping us address the serious menace of defilement and rape cases.” – Kenya High Court Judge.
