Morgan Sim, Canadian Board Chair

Morgan is the founder of Morgan Sim Law, where she brings compassion and creative pragmatism to her work assisting clients with sensitive legal issues, many of which relate to their human rights.  Her practice includes employment law, administrative law, sexual harassment and assault, disability accommodations and benefits, professional licensing and discipline with an emphasis on matters that arise in the workplace or educational institutions. She conducts sensitive human rights or harassment investigations for clients and provides trainings.  She is a member of the Association of Human Rights Lawyers and Ontario Bar Association, where she serves as the Past Chair for the Constitutional, Civil Liberties, and Human Rights Law section. Morgan has been involved in the Equality Effect since 2010, when she had the privilege of travelling to Kenya to participate in the planning of the 160 Girls litigation as e2’s first legal intern.

Hon. Patricia Nyaundi

Hon. Patricia Nyaundi SC, Judge High Court of Kenya, Bachelor of Laws (Hon) (UON), Master of Laws (UCT), Dip in Law (KSL). Patricia was admitted to the roll of Advocates in 1991 and conferred rank of Senior Counsel in 2020 Houman Rights Practitioner with a focus on Women’s and Children’s rights.

Thersa Widdifield

Theresa brings over 35 years of finance experience, with a focus on entrepreneurial environments in financial services and software development. Seventeen years ago, she founded her own business, where she supports family offices for high-net-worth clients, including setting up family foundations. Theresa’s expertise spans financial management, accounting, and governance, developed through her work with diverse business interests and her long tenure in the investment industry. She has developed budgets, forecasts, and financial strategies for businesses and charities, and is skilled in risk management, consistently playing the devil’s advocate to create effective policies and procedures. Her broad experience enhances the financial stability and governance of the charitable organizations she supports.

Kim Shelley Bernhardt

Kim is one of the original volunteers and current Board member (former Chair) and serves on the Equality Effect legal team.  She is a (retired) Labour Arbitrator and former member of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, along with other appointments. She practiced law in the areas of employment, labour, and human rights law.  Kim engages in numerous volunteer activities and speaking engagements involving legal, equity, education, and social justice issues. She enjoys travel and has visited many countries, including living in Dubai, U.A.E. for three years.

Anne Marie Mayne

Anne Marie is e²’s former Director of Finance. Anne Marie joined the e² finance team in early 2018.  She has a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University and a CPA/CA designation.  She has worked at KPMG and Price Waterhouse Coopers in Toronto and London, England where she lived for seven years with her husband and young family.  Anne Marie has been an active volunteer; previous volunteer roles include Treasurer of the Maple Leaf Ball and Canadian Women’s Club in London, President of the Parent Association and Board member for Crescent School.

Jenna Kara

Jenna Kara is a lawyer at Gowling WLG, focusing on complex commercial litigation. Jenna completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Toronto. During law school, Jenna interned with the equality effect and conducted research in Kenya on where do survivors of sexual assault fall through the cracks of the justice system. During law school, Jenna volunteered with the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, which supports survivors of domestic assault, and with Vesta SIT, a tech company that provides technological tools to survivors of sexual crimes to support them in navigating the justice system. During her legal studies, Jenna acted as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Law and Equality and completed a Rotman@Law certificate with a focus in in accounting, finance and statistics. Prior to law school, Jenna completed a Master of Science in Medical Biophysics.

Alex Kochis, US Board Chair

Alex is the President and Founder of FiveBy, a Seattle-area software company focused on reducing the impact of fraud and scams on people and businesses. Prior to founding FiveBy in 2010, he was a Director of Product Management at Microsoft. Alex has also served as a founder and board member of a private non-profit K–12 school in the Puget Sound area. He is a partner at Social Venture Partners Seattle and actively supports scientific research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) through the Solve ME/CFS Initiative and other organizations.

Susan Wright

Susan is the founder of Compass Partners LLC, a respected strategy and market research firm based in Seattle with clients mainly in the technology sector. Prior to that she worked for many years on leading brands in product management and strategy for new products at Microsoft, Nestle and early on at Quaker Oats. Susan’s focus is to bring the rigor and discipline of research to the challenging field of measuring defilement and the effectiveness of Equality Effect programs. She, along with the measurement team, is developing new quantitative and qualitative measurement techniques to provide a clearer understanding of impact and how programs can be improved. As a US board member, Susan leads fund-raising with the goal of developing a broader base of donors to support the work.

Anne Wambeti Ireri

Anne Wambeti Ireri is a Lawyer and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 19 years of experience advancing human rights, gender equality, and legal reform. She is the Executive Director of FIDA-Kenya and has served in key national roles, including the Presidential Working Group on Gender-Based Violence, the Taskforce on National Police Service and Youth Service Reforms, and the National Governing Council of the Kenya Girl Guides Association. Regionally, she has consulted with the African Union and the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre, and internationally worked with INTERIGHTS in London on strategic litigation. A recognized leader, Anne was named among Kenya’s Top 50 Women Lawyers (2024) and Top 40 Under 40 Women (2019).

Mary Eberts

Mary Eberts is an internationally recognized litigator and one of the founding mothers of the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), known for advancing equality in Canadian law. A graduate of Western and Harvard law schools, she has authored landmark legal briefs and published six books, including Equality Rights Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. She has taught constitutional law at the University of Toronto and serves as counsel for the Native Women’s Association of Canada. Mary has received numerous honours, including the Law Society Medal and honorary degrees from three Canadian universities, and is a recipient of the Order of Canada.

Dr. Winifred Kamau

Winifred Kamau holds a PhD from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada, as well as LLB and LLM from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.  She is currently the Dean of the School of Law, University of Nairobi.  She is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has practised law in that country for a number of years.  Winifred’s research interests are in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, informal justice systems and women’s human rights.

Dr. Elizabeth Archampong

Dr. Elizabeth Archampong is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, teaching Administrative Law and Criminal Law in the LLB program and seminars including Law, Science and Technology and Interdisciplinary Legal Research Methods in the graduate program. She conducts research in family law, gender equality law, criminal law, and law and technology and has publications in several academic journals. She is a lawyer, called to the Ghana bar in 1999, and has practiced with Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa and Ankomah, Accra and Dadson and Associates, Kumasi in Ghana.
