What is the Prosecution & Judicial Engagement Initiative?
The 160 Girls Prosecution & Judicial Engagement Initiative is designed to ensure respectful treatment and legal equality for child rape survivors as their case progresses through the judicial system, in compliance with the 160 Girls High Court decision.
The Challenge:
Many rape victims experience institutional betrayal when the justice systems fails to protect their rights, thereby betraying the victim’s trust and perpetuating the original harm.
The Justice Solution:
Prosecutors and judges will internalize the impacts of rape trauma, and the need to respect the rights of victims to access justice, and to avoid revictimizing rape claimants through the judicial process. Prosecutors and judges will be able to ensure respect for child rape victims within the court system.
