2021 VJC Impact Report (Key Findings)

We’re excited to share e2’s 160 Girls Virtual Justice Clubs (VJC) new impact report with you (the VJC initiative aims to educate and empower youth as human rights leaders, and community members as equality advocates, to end impunity for child rape).

It’s rewarding to see the human rights vision, active change making, and high energy associated with the VJC translated into a report format (heavy on art, images, graphics and colour!) – we hope you agree!

The following are some highlights from the VJC pilot experience.

  • 97% of VJC participants said they are now considered leaders in their communities. One participant shared that she “felt like a super girl who is there to help those who need my help.”
  • 91% of participants improved their digital and English literacy and increased their comfort with technology.
  • 96% of leaders shared ideas about gender equality with their community and became a source of information about sexual-based violence. A VJC leader shared that they are “now confident and can advocate for others.”
  • 90% of leaders believe the VJC promoted positive interactions with the police.
  • The 160 Girls Justice Journal (a print newsletter distributed by teams of VJC leaders, rape rescue partners, teachers and police officers) improved community members’ knowledge and understanding on various topics (i.e. defilement investigation steps, signs of defilement, the 160 Girls court case, etc.)
  • The VJC lesson about “Defilement Investigation Steps,” which focuses on content unique to the Equality Effect, was the most sought-after lesson and the second favourite overall
  • 100% of devices distributed to VJC leaders were returned to the equality effect at the end of the project pilot.

An ambitious VJC leader shared: “it’s a very educative club that teaches the community about human rights and also girls rights and i would like it to continue and to be successful in fighting for girls in our country and the whole world.”

The e2 team is now working hard to make this dream a reality, as we scale up the VJC to engage more young leaders and communities in the fight against child rape.

Thank you for following along on this human rights journey. We look forward to sharing more updates on VJC progress with you over the coming months!
