In a year defined by challenges, the equality effect has made significant progress ensuring the protection and promotion of girls’ and women’s rights, in the face of the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and increased sexual and gender based violence. The e² 2019/20 annual report is now available, providing detail about the impact we’re having working with communities, schools, and police, ending the climate of impunity for rape in Kenya and beyond – please click here to read the report.

Read about the impact of our 160 Girls Virtual Justice Clubs, the 160 Girls police training scale up, and the unique human rights measurement tools we are developing to assess the impact of e²’s collaborative and interdisciplinary human rights work. There are also updates from e² legal interns, e.g.: “The (VJC intern) experience reaffirmed my belief that the law is a powerful tool that can be used to seek justice for vulnerable individuals in society.” And there are updates from e²’s rape rescue VJC partners who report the pride in seeing VJC leaders become “’champions’ in helping raise awareness about sexual violence as they distribute (the 160 Girls Justice Journal) newsletters.”

As we celebrate the success achieved during the pandemic period, we are continuing to evaluate the impact of the Virtual Justice Clubs, and also making excellent progress developing and finalizing the 160 Girls Defilement Investigation scale up training curriculum and app. We’ll be updating you soon on that most recent work.

Thank you for your invaluable support of and interest in the equality effect’s work, making girls’ and women’s rights real – together we are having a real impact creating systemic change.
